The name Independence Financial Services is not simply a business title. It is a tribute. Our founder, John L. Hoffmann, named this firm in honor of the USS Independence, the aircraft carrier on which he proudly served in the United States Navy. That vessel represented strength, discipline, and unwavering commitment to those who depend on you. Those same values have guided this firm from its founding in Ventnor, New Jersey in 1997 to its long-time home here in Northfield ever since.
Veteran & Family Owned. Two Generations of Service. Our founder, John L. Hoffmann, served aboard the USS Independence. His son and partner, John C. Hoffmann, CPA, carried on that tradition of service, having served aboard the USS Carl Vinson before joining the firm. We bring that same work ethic, discipline, and sense of duty to every client we serve.
What began as a solo practice has grown into a full-service CPA firm proudly serving individuals, families, and businesses throughout New Jersey. As the firm enters its next chapter, with a new generation of leadership and a growing client family, we remain grounded in the same principles that have defined us from the start: precision, integrity, and genuine care for the people who trust us with their finances.
Stockton State College, 1992. Founded IFS in 1997 after a career in internal audit at Harrah's Casino. AICPA and NJCPA member with over 30 years of public accounting experience.
Rutgers University, Camden, Finance and Accounting. John brings a rare combination of technical accounting expertise and systems thinking to every client engagement, helping businesses not just stay compliant, but run smarter.
10+ years of tax experience. Joined IFS in 2014. Specializes in tax preparation, consultation, and IRS representation. Works alongside her father and brother, bringing the family's commitment to every client engagement.
Stockton University, 1990. Background in casino industry auditing. Joined IFS in 2010, bringing two decades of accounting experience and meticulous precision to every return she handles.
Stockton University. Joined IFS in 2022. Handles financial statements, quarterly sales tax, and monthly client compliance. Fluent in English and Spanish, proud to serve our Spanish-speaking clients.
Stockton University, 2021. Joined IFS in 2022, earned her IRS Enrolled Agent designation in 2024. Specializes in individual tax preparation and IRS problem resolution with current, expert guidance.
